Thinking about today’s prompt, I’m realizing that the best gifts I received this year was giving myself permission to take the time to work on social media stuff for me (as opposed to for my workplace). While I think what I’vedone with the women’s center’s use of social media is important and good for me professionally, I realized this year that it was time to also work on getting my name out there. Thus, this blog. I rearranged things so that I could spend my early morning time working on this blog and other sites. To that, I’d add that signing up for #reverb10 (whiny as I have been about it on occasion) was also a wise gift to myself in that it’s pushed me to write every day and introduced me to a host of bloggers I otherwise wouldn’t know about.
In a more tangible way, my other best gift (again from me to me) was making the switch from Windows toApple products. Steve Jobs received a fair amount of my disposable income this year, but so far I still think it was worth it.
Note: This is my response to the #reverb10 prompts for December 30. #reverb10 is an annual event and online initiative to reflect on your year and manifest what’s next. Each day has a prompt. The December 30 prompt is: “Gift. This month, gifts and gift-giving can seem inescapable. What’s the most memorable gift, tangible or emotional, you received this year?”
