Mashable: “The Holiday Survival Guide for Social Media Professionals”

After my recent trip home, this article on Mashable struck a cord with me. I thought I was finding a decent balance, but my husband and father kept commenting on how much time I was spending with my computer or phone. My mother and sister, on the other hand, seemed to be OK with it. Maybe it’s a gender thing? Or perhaps it’s due to the fact that in my family, it’s the women who are the techies. Either way, it was an interesting dynamic. And it sure was fun to watch my father and nephews play with my iPad.

  1. Hmmm…this is something about which I’ve been thinking a lot the last couple of weeks. I feel like I’m spending way too much time on my phone, but the stuff I mainly check is about my friends and family. I also feel like I’ve lost the ability to just sit (not that I’ve ever been great at it, but I’m even worse now). I’d like to try and regain that, so I think I’m going to try and be more intentional about when and how I spend my time online instead of just constantly checking in throughout the day. But give me a month and then ask me how that’s going – probably about as well as my Diet Coke weaning (takes big gulp from Diet Coke on desk).
